Our trusty steed, The Hornet, has been sold off at the End of Rally charity auction in Mongolia.
We are very pleased to announce that it made 1,330,500 Tugrik. Not many cars crossed the million Tugrik mark and The Hornet raised the most out of all the other participating 2CV's.
1,330,500 Mongolian Tugrik works out as £554.69. We made a very healthy £54.69 'profit'. A very satisfactory ending to the rally.
We don't know who the new owners of The Hornet are yet but whoever they are they have purchased a gem...!
I have posted a brief highlights video of our trip. Its very much a 'First Cut' but I hope I have captured some of the intensity of the rally.
You can find the vid on our new page called VIDEOS
Hope you like it
Rupert
After 8000 miles of blood, alot of sweat and some tears due to trapping
various nerves in Rupert's back we pulled into Ullan Batar at around 5pm
on the 17th August. Not on a Kamaz truck but under The Hornet's own
noisy steam due to a lack of a large section of exhaust.
There really is too much to explain and too much to forget! But it was
an incredible journey.
The Hornet behaved very well... It did break down once; however on some
of the most ridiculous roads I have ever seen it somehow kept us moving
forwards. Through potholes, rocks, sand, dust drifts, rivers, corrugated
bone shattering roads, electrical storms, outrunning electrical storms
on bone shattering corrugated roads and 2600m Mongolian freezing passes....
The Hornet kept going. It also made the trip across the infamous Mongolian
'Southern Route' involving the hardest road conditions of the trip where
Porsche Cayenne's competing in the Transsyberia Rally were being
towed into Ullan Batar due to mechanical problems.
We were one of 40 teams that made the Party deadline (19th) and also
happened to be the first 2CV to finish. Teams are still finishing now..
Thank you again to everyone who donated to our charities. We met the
charity organisers in Ullan batar and your money, we can assure you,
will be used very wisely in Mongolia. We are donating The Hornet to the
CNCF orphanage just outside Ullan Batar. Hopefully they will learn the
genius of the 2CV or just use it as a wendy house.
Now we are planning London to Cameroon....
All the best
Rupert, Jim and The Hornet
